Born to Be Wild

Baby Boomers were born to be wild and by all estimations our retirement will be even wilder, as we pioneer a new perspective.  We are forging a new model of retirement that is most certainly a very radical departure from that of our parents and grand parents.  And changing the “gold watch” narrative that retiring at age 65 makes little sense for many highly skilled individuals.

Here’s a wild thought - retirement and working are not mutually exclusive.  Enjoying retirement activities and still working are also not mutually exclusive.  The world just hasn’t caught up yet as we continue to be out of sync with what “was” and what “could be”.

Boomers will be the architects ensuring a new paradigm for those that follow.  But are employers ready and willing to accommodate this new vision?  With approximately 65% of Boomer workers planning to work past age 65 or not retire at all, it might make sense for those employers bold enough to jump on the band wagon sooner rather than later.

There is a deep disconnect between the expectation of wisdom workers and the employer retirement reality.  Few have the practices in place to accommodate the massive shift in thinking that is just around the corner.
